European Community Parliament’s Biggest Mistake Ever

November 7, 2009 · Leave a Comment

The decision by the European Community to withdraw the crucifix from the classrooms has ingnited a fire that is going to burn opinions for a long time here in the “Old Continent”.

In Italy the decision has had the effect of a powerful earthquake and that is all the newspapers and the media are talking about for the last few days.

Jesus on the Holy Cross, is not only a religious symbol here, but it is part of the tradition of the Country and its heritage both cultural and historical. People from every  political and religious belief have protested strongly against the decision and even the premier Silvio Berlusconi has appeared on television reassuring the Country that “There is no way that we are going to accept that decision and the Crucifix will remain in the classrooms and public buildings “

Italy is lately suffering an outspring of  “Nationalism” due to the increasing number of refugees trying to come here from neighbour African and Muslim Countries. The Racial tension is high and this unpopular decision by the  European Community throws gasoline on a fire that is far from being estinghuished.

Personally I believe that the decision was the biggest mistake the Community has ever made, because it has the negative effect of making Europeans feeling far from the decisions made in Strasbourg  by politician that have  been so far very unknown and unpopular.
